The gospel of prosperity is the opposite of the gospel of poverty.
At one time, preachers were all about preaching poverty from their pulpit. They preached Mark 10: 25, that since it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God, the rich people in the congregation had to donate their wealth to the church, starting from the offering bags passing around – just to get into Gods kingdom. The rich thus thought that the more they donated, the poorer they became and the nearer they became to Gods kingdom. The poor were thus mentally and spiritually conditioned to remain poor, as they were already in a better position to enter the kingdom of God – financially speaking. All eyes closed, all heads bowed, the preachers went home with the loot.
Nowadays, the message has changed as the preachers tell us about “the new revelation”: the gospel of prosperity. They preach Philippians 4:19, that my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in Glory by Christ Jesus. And since the extent of God’s riches is indefinable, He(God) can provide anything and everything at anytime and every time through any means, anyhow – all according to His riches in Glory. The only catch to this unfathomable provision and financial breakthrough is the giving of our financial-all and pledging of our financial-all to the work of the kingdom. Thus, the rich are again plundered and the poor become poorer. All eyes closed, all heads bowed, the preachers again went home with the loot.
But I’m wondering what kind of faith a 5000 people church-congregation, for example, claim to have and manifest when they say Amen to their preachers prayer that God will provide an airplane for each of them at the end of the month. For example: if God indeed provides an airplane for each member of a family of six, won’t there be confusion in the family? what about the neighborhood the live in?
And why can’t these church members open their eyes and ears and put their preachers prayers into a pot of collective reasoning? For example: if 5000 sample-residents of Lagos state, each become airplane owners in exactly 30-days, wont there be traffic and accidents in the Nigerian airspace? coz I believe some people will fly their planes to the end of their street and back just to buy phone recharge cards.
We aren’t even talking hangers, pilots, fuel, maintenance, etc., yet. But all these do not seem to matter to those who claim an Amen to their preachers prayer by faith for Ephesians 3:20 says He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we ask or think.
No Pun Intended, just thinking out loud
