Sin Changed Everything

After God created Adam, he ruled as king over the whole earth. He named all the animals with his God-given unparalleled wisdom. Everything went well and was peaceful. In addition, he regularly received his heavenly visitor ? God. All he needed had been provided ever before he was created. Then came sin!

The man who wanted to be like God was reduced to dust. While meting out judgment to them, God told him: In the seat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it was thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return? (Genesis 3:19). Nothing debases a man like sin! Sin can relocate the one on the mountain top to the valley! The moment sin surfaced, everything on earth changed. Suddenly, man realized he was naked. The animals also realized they could now govern themselves and did not need to be under the control of men. The ground hardened up as it resolved to reduce man?s harvest. The heavens seemed to move father from man as divine visitations now became a rarity. Sin changed everything!

I sometimes wonder how the world would have been if Adam and Eve had not sinned. I sometimes wonder if God would have increased the size of Eden to accommodate all of mankind / perhaps had turned the whole world into a garden. I sometimes wonder: there would be no death; we would want / need nothing, this whole earth would just be perfect – if only man hadn’t sinned.

Adam never prayed in the garden. He had nothing to pray about, all his needs were met, there was no need for prayer. Prayer didn’t exist with Adam inside the garden. He didn?t even pray for a wife: it was Gods idea, design, proposal and execution. God brought Eve out of Adam and the union was just perfect.

Adam didn’t pray for protection: he was in God?s garden. Adam had nothing to fear: animals, spirits, the future, the unknown. Fear didn’t exist in the garden. He didn’t pray for accommodation / provision: he was surrounded by all he would ever need. Adam and his wife were never lonely: God came down regularly and they always chatted together. What could be better than talking directly to the God of the whole earth.

Adam never prayed for healing: he was never sick, in fact, he couldn’t fall sick in the garden, so even the word sick won’t have crossed his mind. Adam and his wife were in heaven on earth. Then came sin, it changed everything!

Sin brought nakedness: physically, spiritually, mentally and socially. Suddenly, they realized they were naked, even though they were only two. What made them shy? the animals? Sin brought fear: man began to fear the animals who once feared him, the animals he had named one by one. Man feared for what could happen in the day, and whatever could happen at night. Man realized he was vulnerable and therefore he had to protect himself.

Sin brought disgrace and sweating: Gods image now had to till the ground from which he was made. Until man’s fall, there was no sweat. Progress was without sweat. Adam was always strong, and his little effort achieved great results. But when sin came, Adam knew tiredness and pain, his great efforts delivered very little result. It was all work, much sweat, and little or no progress.

Sin relocated man from inside Gods garden to outside in the open world, where satan and his angels had fallen into. Man was now in Satan’s territory, subject to his rules and regulations. He could not go back into the garden. He had to fight and run from Satan’s army. Sin changed everything.
