RESPECT, We all want it,
everyone says – “everyone deserves it”
from fam’ly, from strangers and friends,
in all cultures, respect exists in all trends.
Each one wants to be solidly fit,
somewhere another will look at him/her up above.
“Respect your elders”, so our parents taught,
we obeyed, amidst great confusion caught,
almost everyday, the commandment came,
until it became a threat and our hearts went lame.
So there was often no choice, when the cain was our lot,
because of some ‘disrespect’ as quoted by the elders in gold.
Some people just don’t respect themselves,
neither do they have a regard for another,
yet, they clamour to be respected at all cost,
because such are older than you, or whatever,
with thoughts one-sided, such have eyes over-swelled,
up and hurt when others think of them as co-equals.
I wonder why Respect has a single face and not two,
Respect yourself, respect me, I respect myself and respect you,
Forget who was born before… and who came after who,
coz we are all humans and not animals in a zoo,
therefore if you don’t respect yourself, and others too,
then you deserve no ounce of respect too.
