“Do you know what he did?”, “don’t you know what she did?”
On a date – so, in the place – there, in the time – when,
“And you know what else happened” – adding a little weed.
Such is the truth poisoned, becoming a carcinogen.
You can be sure it will be passed on to other aidmen,
Aidmen, aidwomen who have the time and ears to listen.
Into false tales more and more such are driven.
“Just between me and you, ok. Let us both keep it a secret”.
I think you must have heard those kind of lines before.
Soon, two become four, then six, the truth is no more accurate,
Such is the passing of tales from the lips: door to door.
Along the way, it forms some dents and some contours,
Very soon, the truth becomes a lie. Gossip is its name.
Widespread it is over planet earth, it’s not always the same.
“Show me your friends and I would show you who you are”,
Such the saying went and still goes even today.
For your friends would tell if your lips are closed or ajar,
They could tell if your lips are just but an ashtray,
And to what tales your ears cling like an attache.
Fault me not when I say gossip is not only with the lips,
But the ears as well. Ears and lips are always in courtship.
“Keep your ears from evil and your lips from speaking guile”
So says the Holy writ, in the proverbs of Solomon.
Once it goes out of a mouth, it could be heard in a mile,
Soon, it will be known as a ‘general’ or ‘common’.
At the root of all are the tongue and ear, deadly ammunitions
It is one thing to know, it is another to hear.
The collection of things heard does not always cohere.
Let not your tongue become the tunnel way for the untruth,
For such tunnels will eventually be consumed with fire.
Neither let your it become a (G&G) gossip and gossip booth.
Let not lies and ‘things unsure’ make in it a campfire,
Keep it safe behind your thirty-two barbwires.
It is an animal that only you can tame
It could either bring you fame or put you into shame
Neither let your ears become gossip’s own cubicle,
Where different tales of different versions are hidden,
It’s many forms dregs arranged in the alphabetical,
A library of sin, with darkened ears is surely a burden.
Such ears, God will surely chasten.
If there are no listeners, there will be no speakers
If there are no speakers, there will be no listeners.
The only secret thing on planet earth is nothing.
