TITLE: EVANGELISM TEXT: Mat 28: 19–20, Mark 16: 15-16, Luke 24: 47-48,
From the Christian point of view, Evangelism is preaching (telling others), proclaiming the good news about the gospel of Jesus Christ(his birth, life and purpose, work and death). A GOSPEL is “an account”; the word is often used to describe the life and purpose of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. GOSPEL is also used to describe 4-New Testament books (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). Usages include: gospel according to Matthew, gospel according to mark, etc.; The word GOSPEL itself means good-news, glad-tidings, good message; GOSPEL also refers to the general message of the New Testament, known as the good news. The GOSPEL is the good news of redemption, the summary of the Christian message: that Jesus Christ willingly died to atone for the sins of man before God. I Cor: 15: 1-14
a) You cannot give what you don’t have:
How can a blind man explain to another blind man about the beauty of nature? Don’t tell me about what you heard from somebody else or what you read in the newspaper, tell me about what you know or you have experienced. You cannot offer Jesus as the Savior to the world of the sin around you if you haven’t been saved from your own sins yourself. You can’t tell of the joy, happiness and comfort the Holy Spirit gives if you have never experienced it. Your testimony about Jesus is only as convincing to others as it is convincing to you. Lesson: to underscore the importance of a conscious genuine experience of Salvation: repentance from sin and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
b) You cannot give an exciting explanation about what you don’t understand? You cannot understand what you don’t know, you cannot know what you haven’t seen, heard, read or experienced.
Lesson: Heb: 11: 1, Romans 10: 17; v14-15. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (KJV); So belief cometh of hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.(ASV); So faith comes from hearing the message, and the message that is heard is what Christ spoke.(Gods Word); Consequently, faith results from listening, and listening results through the word of the Messiah.(ISV)
c) Although Jesus commands believers to evangelize, believers need to prepare to evangelize:
Mark 16: 15 “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel”; don’t go and tell stories; don’t go and debate; don’t go to condemn sinners; don’t preach yourself; don’t preach a Church; don’t preach a pastor; don’t preach tradition; don’t preach another doctrine, preach Jesus(the Gospel). “Go” – prepare to go, pray before you go, go. Preparation to preach the gospel requires: a message(prepared / familiarized), a method, a place, a preacher, and a listening ear. Most of all, it needs prayer.
What is the gospel of Jesus Christ all about?
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the explanation of who Jesus is, and what Jesus did on behalf of each and every man. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news that Jesus Christ came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). The Gospel of Christ is good news because it answers: Rom 3: 23.
d1) Please summarize the history behind Rom 3:23
d2) Matt 16: 13-19; Who is Jesus to you? what did He do?
